Does it matter whether we give to the poor and needy out of kindness of our heart or because we believe that it is their due? The Church’s teachings draw a distinction between the two virtues of charity and justice. The challenge for us is to be a voice for the poor and needy and to seek what is due to them. In performing works of charity in justice, we are promoting true human development.
