Joyful Parenting

Joyful Parenting is a Family Life Society outreach programme aimed to inform, share and enrich parents-to-be  in their role of bringing up a loving, close-knit family unit.  It also  promotes nutrition and physical wellness for new-borns through breastfeeding as the natural source of nutrition and bonding between babies and mums.   A team of  dedicated volunteers are trained and guided by experienced Family Physicians and IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultants) qualified Nurses.

Joyful Parenting reaches out to mothers or mothers-to-be with breastfeeding advice and support through a  hotline service at Tel: 6488 0286 (Mon – Sat, 10am – 5pm).   The team are also involved in advocating breastfeeding benefits to young couples attending the Marriage Preparation Course (MPC) at the parishes.

Why breastfeed? … in the simplest of terms

  • It is the best start to a beautiful mother-child relationship

Mothering through breastfeeding is the most natural way to understanding and bonding with your newborn baby. It increases awareness of your new role and commitment as a mother to your newborn baby and family.

  • The best nutrition

There is no better form of nutrition for your baby. The components of breast milk are perfectly balanced and change everyday to meet baby’s growth requirements. Breast milk has antibodies which protect baby from infections caused by bacteria, viruses and parasites. Studies have shown that breastfed babies have high IQ scores.

  • It is convenient

Breast milk is free. You never run short of food when you are out. No heating in the middle of the night.

  • Regain your figure

Breastfeeding is a painless and natural way to lose weight and it does not cost a cent. Being a mother may be the most natural thing but it is definitely not the easiest.

Volunteering
We welcome anyone who would like to join us as a volunteer. You do not need to have any breastfeeding or parenting experience, as training will be provided. In return, we need 3 hours of your time per week either on the Help Line or at a Hospital visit.

Help us spread God’s word through the cherished bond of family life. Our work is as spiritual uplifting as it is rewarding when we see healthy family relationships nurtured through the wonderful God-given tool – breastfeeding.
