Am I unclean?
11 February 2024
At one point or another we have all been “unclean” and made outcasts, living on the fringes of society. Perhaps not to the extent of the leper we see in Mark, or made to live out the rest of our days as such in Leviticus. Instead, we may have been labelled by a past mistake, or maybe misunderstood by our own family. But do we do the same to others?
Paul calls us to do all things for the glory of God. But what does that look like? In Mark, Christ did not shun away the leper, instead He welcomed him by stretching out His hand, touching him and healing him. Likewise, we bring glory to God by doing the same. We reach out to the marginalised and we welcome those who are outcasts.
Looking at ourselves, let us not forget to have the courage to seek for healing. As the leper was courageous enough to ask Jesus to heal him, so too can we through the sacrament of reconciliation. In earnest, whatever our misdeeds, seek for forgiveness and we will find freedom.
