5 Tips to

Easily Motivate Your Child for Success

Do you want your child to be successful?

Build a strong relationship

The response to a recent talk, 5 Tips to Easily Motivate Your Child for Success, held at St Joseph’s Church (Bukit Timah), was very encouraging. Many parents attended the talk whilst waiting for their children to finish catechism on a Saturday afternoon. All who attended were pleasantly pleased with the useful takeaways from the talk.

Andrew Soong, a behavioural analyst for more than 15 years and the speaker for the talk, shared his experience about his early parenting days where he used to be an authoritarian dad. He soon realised the painful consequences of this authoritarian approach on his relationship with his two sons. That was the turning point which drove him to rebuild his relationship with his boys.

Many of the fathers who attended the talk could relate to Andrew’s sharing. They were inspired by the 6R Formula that Andrew shared.

The main key takeaway was the importance of understanding the child’s personality and communication style. Adrian, a father realised that “building relationship with children and not using the authoritative style” was important. Similarly, Brian said, “the authoritarian style of parenting is not the way forward if we want to build a better relationship with my child.”

Mothers too benefitted from the talk. Magdalene found the tips on communicating with children useful. Another mother, Faith, said that the talk inspired her to “build relationship with her children and teach them the right values to be God fearing.” Claudia said that she was hopeful to be able to build better relationship with her children using the 6R formula.”

If you have missed out on this talk, fret not. There are more talks and programmes lined up at St Joseph’s Church (Bukit Timah). Alternatively, you can also look out for CFL’s public talks at Catholic Family Life Website at Upcoming Events & Programmes.
