Synopsis

The 1-day Gottman Seven Principles Program draws on over 40 years of evidence-based research by Dr John Gottman who revolutionised the study of couple relationships using rigorous scientific methods to observe the behaviours of couples over many years. It is based on The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Workbook that summarises this research to guide couples towards a harmonious and long-lasting relationship. It is the definitive guide for anyone who wants to deepen their relationship to attain its highest potential.

This Gottman Seven Principles Program aims to provide couples with evidence-based practical tools and skills to enhance their marital relationship in a psycho-educational context. It is not a substitute for counseling or professional therapy.

The workshop format encourages both partners to work on their relationship together.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Class:

  1. Will we have to share our personal problems and issues with the other participants?

Answer: No. Sharing of personal problems and issues publicly is not required. Couple’s exercises are done privately between the couple.

  2. Must both partners attend or can I come alone?

Answer: Yes. Both partners must be present to do the exercises together.

  3. My partner is not a reader. Can we still come to the class if he/she does not want to read the book?

Answer: While the book provides a valuable reference, the class facilitator will summarise the content of the book to enable  couples to understand the principles quickly and to do the exercises together as a couple.

  4. What can we expect to learn from the program?

Answer: The couple will learn the principles and tools to strengthen their relationship in a variety of ways, including deepening their love maps, fostering fondness and admiration,  turning towards each other, accepting each other’s influence, solving problems, overcoming gridlock and creating shared meaning.
