8th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Ever notice how what’s inside us eventually comes out—especially at home? When we’re filled with love and patience, our words and actions reflect that. But when we’re overwhelmed, tired, or frustrated, we might react with impatience, resentment, or selfishness.
Jesus reminds us in Luke 6:45 that “A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good.” So, what’s really filling our hearts? Are we producing good fruit in our families—love, kindness, forgiveness? Or are we letting negativity take root?
As we approach Lent, take this time to take a step back and reflect. Just like a tree needs care to produce good fruit, our family life flourishes when we nurture our spiritual roots. By turning to God in prayer, Scripture, and small acts of love, we allow His grace to shape our relationships.
How can we do this in our families?
Prayer: Take a moment each day to pray together—even if it’s just a short blessing before meals or a bedtime prayer with the kids.
Scripture: Read a short Bible verse as a family and talk about how it applies to your day.
Almsgiving: Lent isn’t just about giving up things—it’s about giving more. Maybe it’s extra patience with your spouse, more time playing with your kids, or choosing to forgive instead of holding onto frustration.
Lent isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress. It’s a season to prune away what isn’t healthy and make room for Christ’s love to grow in us. As we journey through this sacred time, may we allow God to transform our hearts, so that our families may bear the fruits of kindness, humility, and forgiveness in our daily lives.
What’s one small way you can bring more good fruit into your home this Lent?
