Why are we Christian?

Perhaps it gives us a sense of morality, a direction to know what is right or wrong. Or maybe it is because it gives us a spiritual comfort, a sense of mental well-being. In family life, it keeps us grounded, and it teaches us to have faith in times of difficulty. But surely, there is more to Christianity than that?
As we celebrate Palm Sunday, we rejoice the coming of Christ into our lives. But just as we lay palms to welcome Him, the second Gospel details the betrayal, humiliation, and death of Christ. How many of us Christians have caused hurt to one another? As we look at our own families, we may see the pain and suffering. We talk behind their backs, we put them down, and we tear relationships apart.
"Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me." Matthew 25:40.
For all the hurt that we do unto others, we do it unto Him - just as we play our role in this Sunday's liturgy calling for Him to be crucified.
So why are we Christian? Being a Christian is more than just having a moral compass. Being a Christian means, to see Christ in others.
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”Mark 12: 30-31
As we enter holy week, let us reflect on the times that we may have caused hurt to a friend, a sibling, a parent, a child. And let us turn to Him in prayer and reconciliation.
