From our surveys and interview
"The life of every family is marked by all kinds of crises, yet these are also part of its dramatic beauty."
- Amoris Laetitia, 232
Families, in all their beauty, have their ups and downs. We believe that every family has its strengths and weaknesses, and we hope to help to make families aware of the strengths that can be tapped on.
In 2021, we conducted surveys and interviews with couples, parents, and youths to understand what communication is like in the home, marital relationship foundations, and what has helped couples and families in building and strengthening their relations.

Understanding Marriage
We surveyed 68 married individuals and interviewed 4 couples and 2 married women, asking them about their relationship, relationship satisfaction, conflict points and resolution. A key question asked was, "What does a successful marriage mean to you?"

“I guess a successful marriage is one where both parties listen to each
other, communicate a lot, and really connect on a deeper level”
- Married for 11 years, Mom of 1
“One of the things that we always practice is never to go to bed without actually finding a way to make peace and make sure that when you sleep at night, it is like as if it was a good day for us”
- Couple married for 20 years, parents of 3
When asked about the foundation of marriage and the family, a married couple of 43 years said,
“if the parents have a very strong marriage, the child will grow up with a more positive
view of marriage, it's from there that your child will grow up with the concept of marriage”
Communications in the Home
We surveyed 69 parents and 61 youths, asking them about their communication with their child/parent. We sought to understand what communication is like at home, and what parents and children talk about.

“Sometimes we talk about work, … like when we (go) to pick our daughter up … we’ll catch up
(on how we are doing) at work … for like 10 minutes (to) half an hour”
- Married for 4 years, parents of 1
“It’s the (big and small conversations) that we need to have (together), whether it is logistics-based or something that’s a bit more hard-hitting. We should always talk it out and I'm glad (my husband and I) were very much on the same page.”
- Married for 6 years, mom of 2
“Yeah, (my son and I talk about) anything under the sun. He’s very curious, so he will ask me
many questions and I would try my best to answer, but sometimes I try not to as well
because I want him to engage his critical thinking”
- Married for 11 years, mom of 1
