Synopsis

Are you finding yourself caught in power struggles, tantrums, and other challenges with your children? Do punishment, nagging, or giving in seem like your only options when faced with such situations?

If so, join us for this experiential workshop that invites you to step into the child’s world and understand which discipline methods work for your children, and which do not. You will leave with Positive Discipline tools that you can apply right away so that you could be better equipped to handle your day-to-day parenting challenges AND build a relationship with your children that is based on mutual respect and connection.

Positive Discipline is an approach to parenting rooted in mutual respect. It is neither punitive nor permissive, and strikes the healthy middle ground between the two. It focuses on long-term parenting strategies that help children feel a sense of belonging and significance, and build the skills that they need to be confident, responsible, and contributing adults in future.

We will cover important topics such as:

- Introduction to Positive Discipline and its distinctions from other programme

- Awareness of why children misbehave

- Communication approach that invites more cooperation

- 5 essential questions to ask yourself before you discipline your child

Synopsis

In today’s pressure cooker school environment, children can find themselves stressed and unable to cope with the overwhelming workload in school in addition to pressures related to friends and social media. This gives rise to a multitude of problems, such as anxiety, insomnia, low mood and in serious cases, depression and even suicidal thoughts. In this talk, we will discuss how to identify these symptoms of stress in your child at an early stage. Being able to equip your child with the tools of emotional resilience will go a long way in nurturing a well-adjusted child who is able to cope with the challenges of life.

Speaker Profile

Dr Tan E-Ching is deeply passionate about imparting the tools of emotional resilience to the younger generation. In her 20 years as a Senior Family Physician of a group medical practice, she observed a rising trend of mental health problems like anxiety and depression in all age groups, particularly the younger generation. Dr Tan hopes to be able to share her experience and expertise especially in today’s climate when the numbers reporting issues like insomnia, anxiety and depression are rising exponentially. There is an urgent need to equip both children and adults with the vital life skills of self-care, empathy, confidence andcommunication skills to help them navigate the challenges in life.
